Between 2013 and 2017, I had the pleasure of teaching over 1400 people how to make candles and melts, many of whom discovered candle making to be a fun hobby, and some who have gone on to create successful businesses. Over the last 7 years, I have experienced wholesale, retail and pop-ups, and happy to share with you what I've learned. From 2018, I cut back on classes to focus on family as well as pop-ups and markets with my own line of bath/body products.

In this expanded and updated version of the original class, I have included a reed diffuser, as they are an important part of the home fragrance landscape, and a great alternative for situations when a flame is not wanted. I've also reduced the class size, changed the containers, and updated the fragrance selection.

My workshops aim for a balanced approach to learning a craft that combines doing and sensing (such as sniffing those lovely fragrances) with practical information and tips, so that you leave not only with the beautiful products you've made, but the knowledge that you can do it on your own in future.

In this 2.5 hour hands-on class, you will learn the basics of candle making and make a range of scented products using natural waxes and quality fragrances.

Topics covered include:

  • what equipment is needed
  • the different types of wax used in candle making
  • choosing the right wick
  • fragrance and colour options
  • tips about containers, temperatures, troubleshooting

What you will make:

  • two soy container candles
  • soy melts
  • a reed diffuser
  • a rolled beeswax candle

Price includes cost of materials, class notes and keep what you make.

What to bring

Dress comfortably, wear closed shoes and please bring your own apron.

This is an introduction to candle making basics, so no prior experience is needed. All materials and notes will be provided. You just turn up and be ready to have fun.
