Candle Making Class

Classes are held in our studio - Suite 101, 313 Penshurst St Willoughby, on the corner of Penshurst and MacMahon Streets (entrance at 40 MacMahon St, and up one flight of stairs). Free street parking is available, and there is a bus stop outside.

Since commencing my candle making workshops in 2013, I have had the pleasure of teaching over 1500 people how to make candles, many of whom discovered candle making to be a fun hobby, and some who have taken it further. Over the last 9 years, I have experienced wholesale, retail, pop-ups and collaborations for my handmade products including candles, soaps, lotions and bath products.

My workshops aim for a balanced approach to learning a craft that combines doing and sensing (such as sniffing those lovely fragrances) with practical information and tips, so that you leave not only with the beautiful products you've made, but the knowledge that you can do it on your own in future.

In this 2 hour hands-on class, you will learn the basics of candle making and make two natural soy candles and a reed diffuser with scents of your choice, as well as two rolled beeswax candles.

Topics covered include:

  • what equipment is needed
  • the different types of wax used in candle making
  • choosing the right wick
  • fragrance and colour options
  • tips about containers, temperatures, troubleshooting

What you will make:

  • two soy container candles
  • a reed diffuser
  • two rolled beeswax candles

Price includes cost of materials, class notes and keep what you make.

What to bring

Dress comfortably, wear closed shoes and please bring an apron if you wish.

This is an introduction to candle making basics, so no prior experience is needed. All materials and notes will be provided. You just turn up and be ready to have fun.
